Transport of animals and plants within the EU
Transporting animals, plants, alcohol and other products
Owners or authorised persons travelling with a pet must be aware of and comply with the rules on the non-commercial movement of pet animals, as laid down in EU and national regulations. These rules differ according to the country of origin of the animal and/or the country of destination.
Any journey travelling with a pet must be planned properly. Pet owners or authorised persons are fully responsible for ensuring they meet the conditions laid down for the non-commercial movement of pet animals.
Before travelling, the owner of the pet or the authorised person must obtain information on the conditions for the non-commercial movement of pet animals that apply in Romania or in the European Union Member State of destination.
In the event of non-compliance with the conditions laid down for the entry of pets to Romania or to another Member State, the pet animal will not be allowed to enter and the animal may be returned to the country it is travelling from or be put into quarantine until the health requirements are met.
During the non-commercial movement of pet animals, animals must be accompanied by an identification document. Depending on the species of animal, the identification document may be a passport, an animal health certificate or other document required under the national regulations of the Member State of destination.
