Every researcher in the EU is entitled to take up training and employment opportunities funded by national scholarships and grants, even if they are not a citizen or resident of that country.

In Romania, the Ministry of Education and Research organizes and leads the national system of scientific research, technological development and innovation. From this system, a distinct entity is the accredited higher education institutions or their structures.

University scientific research includes scientific research, artistic creation and sports performance-specific activities.

Research, development, innovation and artistic creation in universities are organized and operated on the basis of national and European Union legislation in the field.

Volunteering is a great way of contributing to local communities at home or abroad, while developing new skills and making friends. To go abroad with the European Voluntary Service you can first search for projects which are actively looking for volunteers in the Volunteering Database. If you do not find a project which meets your interest, then you need to find a sending organisation.

In the case of non-formal education, the emphasis is on action learning, peer learning and volunteering. In this field you will find the normative framework that regulates learning and recognition of learning outcomes in non-formal and informal contexts, educational, school and extracurricular activities, Erasmus + Program, "School Otherwise" Program, successful projects and partnerships, national extracurricular competitions, such as and a subchapter dedicated to children's palaces and clubs.

Informal learning occur when children, young people and adults are engaged in activities in the family, at work, in the community, in social networks, when they engage in voluntary, sporting or cultural activities.

According with the Low of National Education no. 1/2011, with subsequent modifications and additions, the students can participate in voluntary actions, for which they can receive a number of transferable study credits, under the conditions set out in the University Charter.

ERASMUS + is dedicated to education and training and enable to study, train, gain work experience and volunteer abroad. In Romania, the Erasmus + Program is implemented by the National Agency for Community Programs in the Field of Vocational Education and Training (ANPCDEFP).

The educational system

Pre-universitary education in Romania

Pre-university education is an integral part of the national education set up as a system, bringing together state education units, private and denominational, authorized or accredited. It is organized by levels, forms of education and, as the case may be, channels and profiles, ensuring the necessary conditions for the acquisition of key competencies and for progressive professionalization.

The pre-university education system is open. Pre-university students can transfer from one school unit to another, from one class to another, from one profile to another and from one branch to another, under the conditions established by the methodology developed by the Ministry of Education.

The schooling of pre-university students is mainly in the official language of the state - Romanian, but also in the mother tongue of students belonging to national minorities, in the case of large ethnic communities, or in languages of international circulation (usually in the case of private schools). international).

The forms of organization of pre-university education are:

  • full-time education;
  • part-time education.

Compulsory general education consists of:

  • primary education;
  • lower secondary education;
  • 2 years of upper secondary education.

Preschool education

Early education (0 - 6 years) consists of pre-school level (0 - 3 years) and preschool education (3 - 6 years), which includes the small group, the middle group and the large group.

Primary education

Primary education is the first stage of compulsory education and includes the preparatory class and grades I - IV, the preparatory class being the first class in primary education.

Secondary education

Secondary education is a component part of compulsory general education. Lower secondary education comprises grades V - VIII.

High school education

High school education includes the following channels and profiles:

  • theoretical branch (humanistic and real profiles);
  • technological chain (technical profiles, services, natural resources and environmental protection);
  • vocational chain (military, theological, sports, artistic and pedagogical profiles).

Post-secondary education

Post-secondary education is organized for professional qualifications established by the Ministry of Education and Research in accordance with the National Register of Qualifications.

Vocational education

Vocational education has the following forms of organization:

  • practical training internships lasting 720 hours, organized after the completion of the 10th grade of high school;
  • vocational education, lasting at least 3 years, organized after the completion of the eighth grade, as part of upper secondary education.

Special education

Special and specially integrated education is an integral part of the Romanian national education system and offers all children / students / young people educational programs adapted to the degree of disability and their development needs. It is organized at all levels of pre-university education, depending on the type and degree of disability.

Education of national minorities

Education with teaching in the languages of national minorities means the type of education in which all subjects are studied in the mother tongue, except for the subject Romanian language and literature, respectively the type of education for students belonging to national minorities who attend educational units with language teaching. Romanian or in a language other than the mother tongue and who are provided, upon request, as subjects of study, the mother tongue and literature, the history and traditions of the respective national minority and music education.

Non-universitary tertiary education

Non-university tertiary education (post-secondary education) is organized at the level of colleges within accredited higher education institutions for high school graduates with or without a baccalaureate degree.

Higher education in Romania

Higher education is organized in universities, academies of studies, institutes, schools of higher education, hereinafter referred to as higher education institutions or universities, which have obtained provisional operating authorization or accreditation.

Higher education institutions are education providers that carry out educational activities based on study programs authorized to operate provisionally / accredited in accordance with the law, initial and continuous training at university level, programs that operate on the principle of quality and correlation of educational offer with labor market.

Undergraduate studies

Undergraduate degree programs represent the first cycle of university studies and correspond to a minimum of 180 and a maximum of 240 transferable study credits, according to ECTS, and are completed through level 6 of the EQF and the National Qualifications Framework.

Master’s degree

The master's degree programs represent the second cycle of university studies and correspond to a minimum number of transferable study credits, between 60 and 120 and are completed through level 7 of the EQF / CEC and the National Qualifications Framework.

Doctoral studies

Doctoral university studies represent the third cycle of university studies and allow the acquisition of a level 8 qualification from the EQF / CEC and from the National Qualifications Framework.
